Diary of a Mad Sportswriter

Stan Hudy is a sportswriter for The Saratogian and Community News. He covers high school and youth sports in the Saratoga County area as well as writing a weekly book review on sports books. He's not just a "stick and ball" sportswriter, he's willing to take on any sport as well as any subject.

Dear Diary: Another fun-filled, filing Friday

It was a full plate for my Friday, but it was all worth it. An early stop at The Saratogian, a break for job No. 2 and then back for a full night of posting, copying, pasting, Twittering, Facebooking, etc. So I'm not that hard to find after all...

I was happy to bring back our Sports Talk box and added video to the Community News. I hope it doesn't loose steam. The Shenendehowa boys ice hockey team weighed in on the NHL's new All-Star plan. I think it's a great idea and would like to see interest remain in it at http://bit.ly/9rR53e

It wouldn't be a complete week without honoring our Athletes of the Week. This was another Spartan doubleheader with girls soccer star Bryony Striffler http://bit.ly/d95QUI
Along with punishing running back Brandon Beatty at http://bit.ly/abDkRr

The most fun, but in all seriousness was working with Shenendehowa ice hockey coach Juan de la Rocha about his cuts for this year's squad at http://bit.ly/b74Xpf

Boys basketball coach Tony Dzikas has more options for players who may not be ready for the next step, holding a player back in freshman or JV before committing to varsity, but it's still not easy at http://bit.ly/cq1TyX

I was also on hand to see the young and old (but not too old) staffers and administrators run in the annual Shenendehowa Veterans Day Dash 5k at http://bit.ly/b4BjGQ

The week also had two highs with two Burnt Hills-Ballston Lake baseball players signing letters of intent and eight Shenendehowa athletes signing letters in one of the largest signing ceremonies I have ever had the privilege to be a part of. (A shout to fellow Saratogian James Sherrill for all of his video help).

More on that later next week, but actually earlier as a full Saturday awaits me to put all 10 stories together for an early Thanksgiving deadline.
