Shen grad, UAlbany senior Olivia Jaren receives post-grad scholarship

INDIANAPOLIS - The University at Albany ’s Olivia Jarem, a midfielder on the women’s lacrosse team, has been awarded an NCAA Postgraduate Scholarship, as announced today by the National Collegiate Athletic Association. Jarem was one of 13 females nationwide to receive the award.

Jarem, a senior from Clifton Park and a Shenendehowa graduate, has a 4.0 cumulative grade point average in psychology with a minor in education. Jarem, who intends to study sports psychology, is in her second year with the UAlbany lacrosse program after transferring from UC Davis. She appeared in 11 games as junior when the Great Danes posted their first winning campaign since 2000. Jarem scored three goals in a victory over Temple and had two points in a conference road win at Binghamton.

“It’s an honor to even be considered and I am overwhelmed,” Jarem said, a two-time U.S. Lacrosse Academic All-American on the high school level. “I give credit to my institution and people in the athletic department who supported me in the process.”

Recipients must be seeking admission or have been accepted into a sports administration or related program that will help them obtain a career in intercollegiate athletics. Scholarship winners have one year to use the one-time award of $6,000.

The scholarship programs were developed by the NCAA Committee on Women’s Athletics and the NCAA Minority Opportunities and Interests Committee with the goal of increasing the pool of and opportunities for qualified minority and female candidates in intercollegiate athletics.
