Ray Waldron, Sr: First an AD and now a Hall of Famer

Every once in a while you get to be part of something special and Monday night was one of those things.

In Tuesday's paper you'll read about Ray Waldron, Sr. the former Saratoga Springs High School coach, long-time athletic director who was selected as the one and only inductee into the newly created Blue Streak Athletic Hall of Fame.

We received the tip over the weekend, did our background interviews, but couldn't even talk to Ray until after the award ceremony because it was also a surprise to him.

He was overwhelmed by the honor and very gracious when I caught up with him afterwards at home.

He had some great things to say and also a great story that I'm going to hold on until the physical designation of his plaque outside the Saratoga Springs Blue Gymnasium later this year.

It was a good night for the Blue Streaks where more than 100 awards were given out to Saratoga Springs athletes during the annual All-Sports reception with Waldron's surprise induction announcement coming at the end.

Congratulations to all the athletes and especially to Ray Waldron, Sr. and his family.
