Phillies: Almost no-hit by Watertown, lose 8-0

After battling through a slugfest in their last meeting in Watertown, the Saratoga Phillies were faced with a batting drought against the Wizards, falling 8-0 courtesy of a two-hitter by Utah Valley University right-hander Kole Mickolio.

The 6-foot-5 pitcher held Saratoga (4-6) hitless through the first eight innings of play and not giving a hit up to the Phillies starters Sunday night. Adam Dimino (Cortland) led off the ninth with a pinch-hit single to left field and Patrick Reardon (RPI) followed with a single up the middle in his pinch-hit appearance in the same inning for the only two singles on the night.

Saratoga starter Gabriel Duran (Dowling) took the loss, giving up four runs on eight hits in his first five innings of work. Patrick Brennan (Iowa) allowed two runs in his two innings of work and Cade Chambers (Walters State CC) also allowed a pair in the eighth.

Watertown (7-4) remains unbeaten at the Alex T. Duffy Fairgrounds and will host Saratoga again today for a split doubleheader at 1 p.m. and 7 p.m. The Phillies remain on the road Tuesday, traveling to Amsterdam before hosting Amsterdam 7 p.m. Thursday night at East Side Rec.
