NYCBL: Glens Falls City Council says "Play Ball"

I may be stealing the lead from fellow reporter Paul Post who was kind enough to travel up North for the Glens Falls City Council meeting to determine if the Glens Falls Golden Eagles NYCBL team would have a home this year, but the news out of the meeting was positive.

In a 4-2 vote, the Golden Eagles will have a memo of understanding to utilize East Field for a rate of $600 for night games and $90 for day contest.

The deal is for one year with two one-year options without an increase...but owner Darrin Williams will have only a 3-day window of credit after each contest to keep his team on the field. That is in response to his recent payment last year's field usage so the city is keeping their thumb on him.

I am hoping my friends to the North will investigate (i.e. FOIL) the city's statement that it charges such a large sum because of it's electrical costs at the field, "$800 to $1,000".

That number was not only a shock to me, but also to the City of Saratoga Springs Dept. of Parks and Recreation where I got a "are you sure that's not a typo?" regarding the amount.

The Saratoga Phillies pay $100 for a night game and $50 for a day game under the city's adult use rate program. I know the city is generous, but they are not insane regarding use fees and utilities. Let's hope Will and the gang follow-up.

The good news is that the Saratoga Phillies will take the field at 7 p.m. Thursday night to open their 2009 NYCBL campaign and I'll be there up in the booth, I assume with Jeremy once again from the Eagles.

Jeremy's no longer with the Golden Eagles. In fact, he lives just up the street from me now in Liverpool.
