Phillies: Shippee shuts down the Dutchmen, 1-0

What a night for Shenendehowa grad John Shippee who mixed up his pitches well and the defense behind him was in lockdown mode for nine innings, giving the right-hander a 1-0 NYCBL victory over the Albany Dutchmen at East Side Rec.

He allowed just three hits in eight innings and picked off a runner at first late in the game. Pepperdine's Brad Jessernig came on in the ninth in a relief appearance.

The night was in question due to weather, but the Saratoga DPW worked hard and Mother Nature cooperated to allow the game to go off without a hitch.

I was glad as Sean Allaire (Central Conn) had his mom, Diane, in the stands along with Biss Larsen (NC State) had his father sitting behind home plate, traveling in from Utah for the game and the locals weren't disappointed.

The live blog went well again, fewer messages from last game, but thanks to John McGraw from Watertown for giving us updates regarding the Amsterdam/Watertown contest.

Hopefully it will catch on and I'll try to do a better job of advancing my live blog opportunities.

The Phillies are on the road for five games in four days, including a three-game set in Watertown. It's a trip I don't make, but I will be on the road next Tuesday at Amsterdam.

Below is the live blog recap from tonight's win.
