Diary of a Mad Sportswriter

Stan Hudy is a sportswriter for The Saratogian and Community News. He covers high school and youth sports in the Saratoga County area as well as writing a weekly book review on sports books. He's not just a "stick and ball" sportswriter, he's willing to take on any sport as well as any subject.

Rappin' up the SRAAs

Well, all the medals have been handed out, both stories have been filed along with a few photos for The Saratogian and Troy Record for the Emma Willard champions.

I'm back in the Spartan Shuttle, courtesy of Burnt Hills Rowing Association head coach Mike Meier along with his former standouts, current Marist rower Andy Sayles and Temple hammer Aaron Heyde, along with a dozen racing shells.

We've made the required stop in Rampo at Burger King for food and fuel before continuing up I-87 and back home.

The one thing I will take with me is the exposure (pun on a previous post) to Andy's choice of Ipod tunes for the 7-hour round-trip trek to Mercer Lake. Not a big fan of rap myself, but as they say "This &#*%$ is growing on me, Dog!"

Look for extended versions of the weekend on the web for both papers, a re-cap about Section II and New York State and continuing coverage of the Canadian version and upcoming US Rowing Invitational in Cincy. I'm staying home for both of those, the schedule moves to all high school sectionals and three weeks of in depth of rowing coverage wouldn't assist us with our readers. Don't worry, I'll be following the events via the web, posting and getting it in the print editions. Thank God for cell phones.
