MAR - Game 18: Niskayuna 10, Sacred Heart 3

CLIFTON PARK - Eastern New York State consolation winner Niskayuna proved to be the lone Eastern New York state competitor left in the Cal Ripken Baseball 11-year-old Middle Atlantic Regional tournament with a 4-0 record through pool play.

Niskayuna held a 2-1 lead before lighting was spotted in the distance and play was halted. A short time later, the rain came and soaked both fields at the Clifton Common Baseball Complex in Clifton Park.

After a 2 1/2-hour delay and the conclusion of the Clifton Park/Kingsbridge contest, play resumed on a different field and Niskayuna took over the contest.

Tacking on runs seemingly at will, the Silver Warriors put the contest out of reach when Brian Toy drilled a Sacred Heart offering over the center field wall for a commanding 10-3 lead.

Niskayuna (4-0) earned the No. 1 seed out of Pool B and will take on the Northwest Pennsylvania champion, Spring-Ford, at 2 p.m. Monday afternoon in the elimination semifinal.

Sacred Heart (3-1) was saddled with the loss, but remain alive in the Mid-Atlantic Regional, facing Pool A winner and Metro New York champion, Kingsbridge, noon Monday.

The Middle Atlantic Regional championship contest is scheduled for noon on Tuesday.
