Wilton and two Clifton Park squads set for state semis tonight

The Wilton Cal Ripken 11-year-old All-Stars and Clifton Park Bulldogs each earned the top seeds heading into tonight’s Eastern New York State Cal Ripken Baseball semifinals at the Bogt Baseball Complex in Colonie.

The Bulldogs will face Niskayuna in the 5:30 p.m. semifinal with Wilton facing the Clifton Park Bombers in the 8 p.m. semifinal.

The winners will advance to Wednesday’s 8 p.m. championship final. Tuesday’s losers still have life, competing at 5:30 p.m. Wednesday in a consolation final.
The top three teams in the Eastern New York State Tournament earn berths in the Cal Ripken Baseball Mid-Atlantic Regional hosted by the Clifton Park Bulldogs beginning Aug. 8 at the Clifton Common.

Wilton enters the semifinal with a 3-1 record, securing its post-pool play position Monday afternoon before falling to North Colonie, 6-4, in last night’s finale.
The Clifton Park Bulldogs also posted a 3-1 record and were already guaranteed a spot in the Mid-Atlantic Regional as a host squad. They lost earlier in the day Monday to Saratoga, 11-2, giving the Spa City squad new life in the tournament and forcing the Clifton Park Bombers to win out to advance.

Saratoga ran out of gas in the finale, falling to East Fishkill, 9-0. The Bombers dropped East Fishkill earlier in the day, 2-1 in a nail-biter, but didn’t leave anything to change in the finale, defeating North Colonie 2, 9-2.
