Former Phillie Bryan Cook named All-everything

There was no question that Nova Southeastern University big man Bryan Cook had talent, he just didn't have as great a summer as he had hoped last year with the Saratoga Phillies.

But, swinging a wood bat last year in the Spa City may have been just what he needed as Cook has earned a bushel of awards this spring with the Sharks.

Last summer, Cook batted .196 in 30 games with 102 at bats, earning 20 hits, with three doubles and a team record five home runs. He drove in 15 runs and scored 17. He walked 13 times and struck out 30.

This spring at Nova Southeastern, the 6-foot-5, 230-pound senior slugger exploded.

Cook hit a team-high .418 starting all 51 games for the Sharks. In 184 at bats he belted out 77 hits with 17 doubles, a triple and 17 home runs with 48 RBI and scored 77 runs himself. He boasted a .799 slugging percentage and took 35 walks while striking out 28 times for a .513 on-base percentage.

For his stellar senior season, Cook has been named as:

  • ABCA/Rawlings South Region Baseball Player of the Year
  • ESPN The Magazine Academic All-America First Team
  • All-Sunshine State Conference Player of the Year
  • NCBWA All-South Regional First Team
  • DAKTRONICS All-Region First Team
  • All-Sunshine State Baseball First Team
  • CoSIDA Academic All-District First Team (4.0 in Psychology)

Cook will now advance to teh 2008 ABCA/Rawlings All-America national ballot
