Boxing: Saratoga's Wilcox to face Nagy Aguilera July 25

Wilcox faces best fighter to date as co-feature in Spa City event.

Pugnacious Promotions, our Saratoga friends in the Sweet Science sent out this press release regarding Gary "The Whip" Wilcox's opponent July 25 at the Saratoga Springs City Center as part of ESPN's Friday Night Fights.

The bout will be featured on the annual card showcasing hot, young boxing prospects promoted by Pugnacious Promotions, in association with Joe DeGuardia’s Star Boxing and DiBella Entertainment, during the first weekend of racing at historic Saratoga Race Track. Feature fights on the card – held on the first night of twilight racing and the evening before the Breeder's Cup qualifier, Whitney Stakes.

Also appearing on the card will be Guilderland lightweight prospect Mike Faragon (3-0), Schenectady light welterweight Brian Miller (2-0-2), Guilderland cruiserweight Chris Horn (3-1, 2 KOs), Albany light heavyweight Markus Williams (1-0, 1 KO), Yonkers cruiserweight Jon Schneider (7-2-1, 5 KOs) and Schenectady pro debuter Brian Abraham.

“This heavyweight match-up between Saratoga’s own Gary Wilcox, a seasoned, highly skilled veteran, against the hot, young prospect Nagy Aguilera, from the Hudson Valley, is sure to be a thrilling fight for fans,” Saratoga promoter Lisa Elovich “It’s a true crossroads fight, with an accomplished and experienced boxer standing in the way of an up-and-coming, undefeated prospect.”

Wilcox, 6'4" and 240 lbs, was a former cruiserweight contender who has moved up to heavyweight for his past few fights. He fought in Albany on May 16th, earning a fifth-round TKO over journeyman John Rainwater.

Aguilera, a 6'3" 235 lb Dominican fighting out of Newburgh, was a former two-time Golden Glove title winner with over 120 amateur fights. He stepped up in his first eight-round bout May 29th at Tioga Downs, near Binghamton, against tough Pittsburgh slugger Jason Bergman, winning by TKO in the first round.
