Shen's Adam Hitchko honored before hockey semifinal

Pictured left to right: Shenendehowa assistant coach Jim Vomacka, Shenendehowa Superintendent Dr. L. Oliver Robinson, former career goal record holder Mike Rosa, Adam Hitchko, Shen coach Juan de la Rocha, Shen Athletic Director Chris Culnan and Shen assistant coach Scott Louis.

Shenendehowa senior Adam Hitchko was honored before Shenendehowa's Section II Division I semifinal game versus Christian Brothers Academy at the Clifton Park Arena.

Hitchko scored two goals against Saratoga Springs Feb. 6, tying the previous record of 88 goals set by Mike Rosa from 1990-1994 and breaking it to set the mark at 89 and counting.

He was presented with a plaque holding his 88th and 89th scores along with a photo of himself in his locker after the contest with his record-setting tallies. (Note the photo was taken by me).

The 6-foot-2 senior tacked on two more goals to his new record all during the second period Friday night and surprisingly on the same shift as the Plainsmen routed the Brothers, 7-2 to advance to the Section II Division I final Feb. 21 at the Achilles Rink on the Union College campus.

Shenendehowa has won five consecutive Section II Division I titles. Another one will continue to be historic and problematic for this blogger. We came up with "One for the Thumb" last year with an illustration of five gaudy rings on a hand and am not sure what to go with if the Plainsmen are successful this year.

Reda's a big fan of "Shen's plus-one", I'm leaning towards "Super Six" or something else.

I'm taking suggestions.
