Shen boys second at MSG, Davidson fourth in mile

The Shenendehowa varsity boys 4 x 800 relay squad of Brian Trainor, Zac Suriano, Jamie Glover and Ryan Jones edged their way into the first-ever contested “Border Clash” at the Millrose Games held in Madison Square Garden, but made the most of it.

The Plainsmen foursome finished in second-place in the event pitting the three fastest relays from New York against the three fastest relays from the state of New Jersey. New York’s Warwick Valley captured first in eight minutes, 3.13 seconds followed by Shenendehowa at 8:03.89. Morris Hills was third, a full second behind at 8:04.84 followed by Washington Township at 8:06.15, Somers 8:09.92 and Hunterdon Central sixth at 8:10.61.

Section II was well represented in the Girls High School Mile event with Saratoga’s Hannah Davidson moving up to as high as second place in the 11-lap event before finishing in fourth with a time of 4:57.68. Southern Regional’s junior Jillian Smith passed Cory McGee from Pass Christian late in the race to take the invitational mile in 4:50.87.

Greenwich senior Caitlin Lane finished sixth at 4:58.13 and Scotia-Glenville’s Jillian King was eighth out of the 10-person contest at 5:06.74.
