Win and in for Blue Streaks football Saturday

Despite a currently disappointing 2-4 record in the Section II Class AA Empire Division, the Saratoga Springs football team could still realize a goal set by first-year coach Terry Jones...reaching the playoffs.

Courtesy of some help by Christian Brothers Academy Friday night, upsetting Bethlehem, the Blue Streaks could reach the playoffs with a 3-4 regular season record and earn the No. 4 seed if and only if they knock off 1-5 Albany at Bleeker Stadium in Albany.

On paper, it appears that the Saratoga fans should start planning for a tailgate party next Friday night to Troy to take on No. 1 LaSalle under the lights.

But this has been a challenging year for Jones and his Saratoga gridiron squad.

First, he loses senior quarterback Jimmy Minogue to a torn ACL at Bethlehem in Week 4. That is followed up with a non-discussed, unconfirmed non-start of players versus Shenendehowa and the obvious, yet again, no-comment of nine players last week at Guilderland.

To top things off, the Blue Streaks are expected to be without running back Lee Jay Pollacchi who has reportedly broken one or possibly two bones in his wrist/arm.

Saratoga will once again rely on the leadership of junior quarterback Colin Mulholland and full back Ford Plowman.

The Blue Streaks have their backs against the wall and are on the road facing a 1-5 team playing simply for pride. This could be Jones' best coaching job of the season if Saratoga can simply go out and put the Falcons away early, stay healthy and gain a spot in the playoffs.

Nothing has been easy this year for Saratoga and Albany could play spoiler for the Blue Streaks, handing the No. 4 spot to CBA with a win.

But that's why they play the games isn't it?
