Saratoga gets by rival Glens Falls, 2-1.

Brad Grove got the save and the Phillies got a much needed win over rival and East Division leader Glens Falls
He enticed Jake Shaffer into a groundout and struck out Kevin Mahoney for the final out, for the 2-1 win.
The Phils were all smiles, cutting the Golden Eagles lead to four games before a day off.

Saratoga taking no chances in 9th
Mike Fiers struck out Jake Owens (Northwestern) to start the ninth, but a single through the left side by Dan DeGeorge (Princeton) ended his night.
Coach Baron quickly went to left-hander Brad Grove (Virginia) for a short relief appearance.

Phils look to shut door late
Saratoga starter Mike Fiers is in command through eight, but Saratoga coach is taking no chances with lefthander Brad Grove (Virginia) and right hander Josh Simmons (Wheaton College) warming up in the bullpen.

Fiers out of jam...tension mounts in 7th
Saratoga starter Mike Fiers got himself out of a jam in the seventh after Ryan Powers (Mississippi St) booted, literally, a grounder, allowing Kevin Mahoney to reach first and go to second on the loose ball Fiers got Luis Feliz to ground out to Powers and Mahoney went to third.

With both benches on their feet and howling after each pitch, Fiers struck out Rick Seltzer to get out of the inning. As the Phillies ran out to greet Fiers they were warned by the base umpire about coming onto the field.

Several warnings were already issued to the Glens Falls bench about taunting the opposition and to keep their cheering to their own teammates.

Saratoga coach Garret Baron tried to squeeze ina run in the bottom of the seventh.
Eric Walker (Oklahoma State) reached on an infield single and Cowboy teammate Donnie Webb bunted his was on base. Brian Harris (Vanderbilt) almost reached on his bunt, but could only advance the runners with his sacrifice.

Saratoga tried to plate Walker on a Bryan Rose (Kentucky) nub towards third, but was held at third and Rose was thrown out. Glens Falls starter was able to strike out Jon Nicolla to end the inning.

Eagles cut lead with dinger
Glens Falls center fielder Luis Feliz (Rutgers) cut Saratoga's lead in half, 2-1, with one swing, sending a Mike Fiers offering over the left centerfield wall and onto Caroline Street. It was the second homer this year by Feliz and the second one given up by the Phillies staff.

Phils up in rivals, 2-0 in 1st
The new arrival of D-Bats to the Saratoga Phillies must have done the trick as the hometown locals went up on rival Glens Falls, 2-0, in their first time at bat.

After starter Mike Fiers (U of Cumberlands) went 1-2-3 to start the contest, the Phillies jumped on Glens Falls lefty starter Brian Moran.

Donnie Webb (Oklahoma State) singled down the left field line for his first hit in nine plate appearences. Brian Harris (Vanderbilt) walked and both advanced on a groundout. Webb scored on Jon Nicolla (Duke)'s shot to third baseman Kevin Mahoney (Canisius) that was mishandled, never thrown..

Jake Willis (Siena) sent a long drive to right field and Glens Falls right fielder Jake Shaffer (Northern Kentucky) misplayed it, turning his back as the ball sailed over his left shoulder. Harris raced around from second, but was gunned down on the relay throw from second baseman Jake Owens (Northwestern).

Nicolla moved over to third on the drive and scored when Moran couldn't field a Mark Riffee infield grounder for a 2-0 lead.
