Phillies sweep Wizards NYCBL 1st round

The Saratoga Phillies know playoff baseball and for the second straight year the defending NYCBL champions swept another playoff series.
On Monday night at East Side Rec, Saratoga defeated Watertown, 15-2 and 5-0 at home in a rare playoff doubleheader.
With a scheduling conflict effecting available fields Saratoga took the option of playing its two higher seeded games at home today.
The plan worked.
Mike Fiers (U of Cumberlands) earned a 15-2 win in the first game and Bret Harvel (NW Missouri State) earned a 5-0 win in the nightcap.
Saratoga extended its playoff win streak to eight consecutive games. Watertown's 3-9.
Saratoga will play on the road at Glens Falls Thursday before returning home Friday at 7:30 pm.

Phils up through 7 innings
Bret Harvel was lifted with two outs in the seventh, bringing in NJIT lefty Corey Kuzmik.
Harvel was strong, throwing 6 2/3 shutout innings, allowing only four hits, striking out nine and walking one.

Phils up in second playoff game, 2-0
The Saratoga Phillies appear to like seeing a pitcher at least once before they start to rack up their runs.

In the second playoff game Monday night at East Side Rec, Saratoga took a good long look at Watertown starter Luis Castillo, sizing up the right-hander for two innings.

In the third, Saratoga opened up the game with 4 runs on 5 hits.

Corey Hunt (Virginia) led off with a double down the left field line and eric Walker reached on a dropped third strike. Donnie Webb (Oklahoma State) crushed a double that hit the right outfield wall, scoring Hunt from second. Bryan Rose's (Kentucky) infield single plated Walker for the 2-0 lead. Jake Willis (Siena) sent Webb home on a bloop single to center that evaded three defenders.

After a visit from the Watertown coach, Bryan Cook (Nova Southeastern) sent a Castillo fastball into the left field wall near the 347-foot mark, driving in Rose for the 4-0 lead.

Meanwhile Saratoga right-hander Bret Harvel (NW Missouri State) is cruising through four innings, allowing a lone hit and striking out four.
