Miners cut lead, 4-2 in 8th

Saratoga starter Matt Vernon (William and Mary) was looking to give the Phillies bullpen a rest, but ran out of time.
Little Falls shortstop Calvin Sanchez (Centenary College of Louisiana) led off the eighth with a double to center. He would come around on two groundouts by Aaron Roberts (Southern Illinois University of Carbondale) and Matt Leskiw (Virginia Commonwealth), cutting the lead, 4-2.
After Vernon walked Tom Edwards (Rutgers), he was lifted for Cory Kuzmik (NJIT) who got a flyout to end the inning.
Vernon went 8 2/3 innings, allowing two earned runs on six hits. He walked three and struck out five.
