Glens Falls foul in seventh

The Phillies were unable to plate a run in the top of the seventh and coach Garett Baron asked for a pitching change...of the Golden Eagles.

Artie Clyde (High Point) gave up a one-out infield bunt to Tyler Zeronda (Lafayette) and got help when Mike Konstanty (Albany) robbed Saratoga's Donnie Webb (Oklahoma State) of a single with a dving catch onto the foul line.

Phillie Brian Harris (Vanderbilt) battled Clyde but went down on strikes. Harris wasn't happy to be fooled and the Glens Falls pitcher gave the batter a fist pump along with an audible F-bomb.

Saratoga coach Andy Cuthbertson questioned the home plate umpire's decision to not eject or warn the Glens Falls pitcher. Baron also came down from the third base box to question the inaction.

The Phillies answered with their own flip from under the chin with reliever Mark Lamm who quietly struck out the Glens Falls side in the bottom of the seventh.

Saratoga starter Pete Vernon (William and Mary) is on the hook for the loss, giving up three runs on five hits over his six innings. He walked two and struck out three.
